About this Piece

Printed and published by Flatbed Press, Austin, Texas, TX, USA.
Robert Levers explored the idea of terrorists being viewed as "fools" or "clowns." In this image, the terrorist is caught in the spotlight trying to juggle plates and the plates without success.
After the early attack of terrorists at the Munich Olympics, Levers often used these masked figures in ridiculous and hopeless situations. They may stand in for anarchistic acts and as consumer of the media, our relationship to the acts we see.

About the Artist

Robert Levers (American 1930-1991) was a senior faculty member in painting at the University of Texas at Austin. His lithographs and etchings exhibit the same wry humor and extraordinary draftsmanship as his fantastic oil paintings. Levers was a National Endowment for the Arts Fellow in 1976 and 1984. He was included in the American exhibition at the Venice Bienale in 1984, and had a retrospective exhibition at Laguna Gloria Art Museum in 1991.
