About the Artist

Deborah Starr Shannon

Deborah Starr Shannon’s work has won her numerous prestigious awards as well as signature membership in the Southwestern Watercolor Society, the Texas Watercolor Society, and in Associated Creative Artists. Her work has been exhibited by invitation in Milan Italy. For thirteen years she was an owner of Gallery VIII in Plano, Texas where her work was continuously exhibited. Her work is currently carried by Bee Street Gallery in Dallas and Fort Worth Texas.

She works in numerous media including: watercolor, acrylic, oil, collage, photo transfers and printmaking.
Shape, texture, and color are the primary elements the artist exploits to express her feelings in her paintings, which are enriched by a layering process. Often she strives to achieve a sense of abstraction without being nonrepresentational, a challenge she finds intriguing.

Domestic architecture has always caught the artist’s interest because she sees it as where man and his environment intersect. Homes and barns not only reflect the wealth and physical needs of the builder but also his personality and his artistic sensibility. She is particularly taken with the delightful eccentricity of the Victorian era and has done a series on the San Francisco Victorian.
