About this Artist

Pat Wheelis Kochan is a Dallas, Texas based artist, teacher, and author. She studied art and design at the University of Colorado and has worked in water media, acrylic, oil, mixed media, monotypes, and printmaking throughout her career. Her preferred styles range from impressionism to abstraction. She has taught art at her studio, Artisan’s Studio-Gallery, for many years and gives workshops for art organizations. In addition to her art practice, she is a writer, lecturer, juror, and is often invited to demonstrate her technique to other artist groups. Kochan focused on a series of works based on the buildings and people in and around Downtown Dallas since the ‘80s. These works became the inspiration for her book, “Once Upon a Time in Dallas, Through the Artist’s Eyes.” It was recognized by “Dallas Proud” of the Office of Cultural Affairs in the Dallas Mayor’s office. Many paintings from this series hang in the Belo Mansion, Magnolia Hotel, and other downtown buildings. FelCor Lodging Trust Inc. sponsored Kochan in the City of Dallas, “Dallas Soars Pegasus project.”
