About this Artist
Dan Wingren was born in Dallas in 1923. He studied art at Southern Methodist University and at the University of Iowa. Wingren taught from 1950 to 1958 at the University of Texas at Austin. He also served as director of the San Antonio Art Institute. He returned to Dallas and continued to teach painting and art history.
Wingren's primary subject is the Texas landscape. Sometimes his paintings contain human figures, but his interest is largely in the sweep of the land and the expanse of the Texas sky.
